Storm Debris & Rubbish Collection

The County is now operating seven sites to dispose of storm debris and refuse. Each site accepts only specific materials, so the public is advised to separate waste items appropriately before making drop-offs.

All debris (not including green waste) must not be longer than three feet.

Green waste is organic plant material from yards, landscaping, or storm cleanup, such as tree branches, leaves, grass clippings, brush, shrubs, and other vegetation.

County Tipping Fees Waived

The County of Kauaʻi Solid Waste Division is waiving tipping fees for storm-generated debris at the Kekaha Landfill and Refuse Transfer Stations as residents and businesses clean up from Hurricane Lowell.

CURBSIDE COLLECTION

  • Crews returned to Wainiha and Hāʻena this week to continue picking up Hurricane Lowell debris, weather permitting. Wednesday, October 7, was the final day for debris pickup. Crews worked from Wainiha through Hāʻena, as far as roads were accessible. Because some roads were inaccessible, all items had to be placed along the county or state right-of-way. Crews could not pick up debris from private property.

    • Crews took furniture, appliances, metals, and construction debris. Residents were asked to sort their piles into separate groups, with appliances in one pile, metals in another, and construction debris in its own pile. Crews did not take green waste or propane tanks.

  • Starting the week of Oct. 12, refuse collection in the North Shore will resume on Thursday. Tuesday service will no longer be available.
